Aries the Ram in 2010

The New Year will get off to a stuttering start with Mars, your ruler, reversed in Leo and Mercury the Messenger retrograde in Capricorn. Be ready for problems or confusion with career, lifestyle or romance: you may not be able to set things on track first up. Double-check communications and don't let a situation get out of hand. However, this is only short-lived, for Mercury moves forward on Jan 15, although Mars still has time going backwards. Use the period to explore the inner reaches of creativity and spiritual concerns to decide where you want to go. It may not seem like it for the impatient Ram, but there's plenty of time, especially after March 10 when the Warrior moves forward in Leo, allowing you to get back on track with lifestyle, creativity, children or romance.
Jupiter opens doors to the inner worlds on January 18th, as he sails into Pisces and your solar twelfth house. It's time to take on a teacher or teachings, or search out revelations or talents that shine a new light, or bring a new frontier into view. Be sensitive; head for the depths of 'you' (or your chosen subject) to discover the true path. Jupiter races on, arriving in your sign on Jun 6, but with a screech of brakes, all too soon applied. However, there is enough incandescence to light the way, or kindle a flame for 2011. Jupiter hits reverse on July 23, slipping back to Pisces on September 9, leaving you with urgent desires or passionate dreams that will take time to fulfil. June will see an explosive, completely unexpected possibility enter your life, so watch out! Saturn is the arbiter of measured effort and the passage of life. This year he begins in Libra, your house of partnership, testing Pluto, Lord of the Underworld in Capricorn. Relationships will be a prime arena for growth and development, as you forge connections or pass on from old ones. You can re-vamp relations, or restructure them in accordance with professional or personal life. A new foundation for dealing with people and situations (whether in the run of personal responsibility or professional) in the end will create a new persona for you to work from. Be accomplished, artful and learn to play a hidden hand with a gracious mask. New heights of power or achievement await the Ram that learns the lesson.
This year people will bring something into your life you truly need—or you may jettison the excess baggage by passing on from a relationship, situation or association that no longer serves. Saturn hits reverse on January 13, once again calling the thunder in a burgeoning clash with Pluto, so be prepared for change. After a brief return to discerning Virgo from early April through a forward move on May 30 and onto a return into Libra on July 21, Saturn will show the way as you learn the skills of cooperation and social interaction. Work at being a consummate professional.
The long-awaited meeting of Chiron, the Wounded Healer and Mystic Neptune in the sign of Aquarius will see you move ahead or commit to a course where friends, special interests, group activities or the community itself will feature and become the substance of your interests. Aim high but tailor your efforts to the measure brought by others and the demands of responsibility.
 Relationships: the Journey to the Heart 
Ambitious Venus stands firm in Capricorn at the start, fresh from a union with the Lord of the Underworld, Pluto. Be level-headed, practical and determinedly ambitious for what you want this year. You might have an end and a renewal under your belt already. If not, they'll be in place by the time you sing 'auld lang syne' to see out 2010. There'll be powerful people or authorities to deal with and a slice of social action will go with business or career. Be wary of mixing professional and erotic life, as the resultant alchemy will pack a punch.
For some, a powerful business or career development is matched with a close personal relationship. It's time for a new professional stance or identity, one that will emerge through new connections or partnerships, or one you'll cultivate as you undertake new responsibilities in your career. You'll find yourself with a change in status or a shift in operating style, especially where 'one to one' relationships are involved. Saturn in Libra till April 6 and then from July 21 makes this a landmark year for development via associations, as you take a beat from others, learn from them, or work in tandem with their efforts. As part of a team, do what's required. If others need you to take the weight, step up. If you need a hand or a bridge across a gap, someone will be there for you if you adjust the balance with others in your life.
Singles should get ready for a life-changing commitment, while those already in a relationship will have a revamp—a restructure or a shift in power or authority that will alter the balance, the operating basis of your relationship, completely.
In the arena of love or money, prepare for a hitch, a glitch or a reversal as Venus turns retrograde in Scorpio on October 8. A secret deal, a liaison, a joint venture or the run of credit or mortgage obligations will hit a testing period. Have a backup plan, or money in reserve. Hold back on a financial interest, and prepare for delays or absences affecting fiscal business. You may be unable to raise needed capital, or you may be unable to meet current obligations and thus have to negotiate an interim arrangement. Familiar money contacts will be absent or unavailable when needed.
This will also affect emotional or erotic life, as the familiar will be absent or there'll be delays or separations. You'll wish to step back or withdraw from people in general, or from a particular involvement. You may be so deeply embroiled in the affairs of love or money that other areas will suffer through absence or neglect or, conversely, you'll wish to pull in your horns and not get too involved financially or emotionally. You may deal with someone who definitely doesn't want what you want in love or money. Prepare yourself for contact with an intense, magnetic or difficult individual, a female most likely.
This is not the time for emotional or fiscal risks. Avoid secret deals or hidden arrangements. Venus slips back into Libra on November 8, shifting the focus to partners or close associates. If the past in love or money catches up with you, an old ally will step into your court. A slow shift forward comes on November 18, but give social or monetary dealings time to get back on track.
Home and Family
The January and June Eclipses will shift the pattern of home or family life, either by the pressure of change in career or responsibility, or with a major shift in personal concerns. The presence of Saturn in Libra from the start until April 6 and again from July 21 until the end also indicates change in the structure or balance of personal life—a change which will roll into further changes at home or in the family. A new partnership, or an established one revamped, will alter the operations of your personal life. Someone close will take on responsibilities or generate them.
You'll start a new relationship, restructure an existing one, or find yourself unfettered and in new territory. Whichever way it goes, it won't be a year for drinkies on the verandah, twisting by the pool, or drowsing in the hammock. However, there'll be exciting frontiers to cross, or potent shifts in personal or family life at first that will bring shifts within you in the long term. Lost souls, lame ducks, or wanderers may return in November.
Work and Health
New impulses, ideas, opportunities, or callings will affect your working life this year, as will the nature of personal relations, or involvements with others. However, April 6 til Jul 21 will see Saturn, otherwise in Libra, return to Virgo in reverse, clashing with Uranus in Pisces as he does so. You'll be back on old ground, trying to put the details in order with a work concern or trying to get the method or treatment right with a health matter. One way or another, you'll need to shift the foundation of thinking and practice to find new ground.
The midyear will see you step up to that, even if you find the best results from effort made now will come in 2011. Method, critical authorities, or the nag of details will be in the frame: you'll have to review past issues or suffer a slight return. If you've left something too long, or pushed yourself to breaking point, you'll pay a price. However, if you've discovered what you need to learn or the strings you must add to your bow, now's the time to act. Be discerning, work hard and the light of inspiration will come in June, showing a way forward. You'll actually be able to leave the past behind, but the influence of others will be a great or necessary contributor to that achievement.
Apr 20 will bring a subtle change or shift for some, as Chiron the Wounded Healer slips into Pisces. Aa creative or spiritual impulse or practice will incline you in new directions—or into the inner self. A health or work concern will introduce new ideas and practices that will bring subtle changes over time. You'll begin to become more sensitive, emotional, or receptive. Watch for nervous system issues in the midyear, and act to soothe, smooth, or find a remedy.
Career and Finances
This is a year to take on the tough task, or to make a total change in career direction. Cooperation and growth in working relations are key factors, as is the transformation of older initiatives or associations into genuinely integrated efforts. Take a risk with a new horizon in profession, or with your contacts, working to reach a point where harmonious interactions and cooperative efforts form the greater part of what you do. You will need a balanced and balancing persona to deal with authority, responsibility, or manage a career. You can either be ruthlessly determined or you can be open to offers, but you really need to learn the protocols, the graces and the social or business forms that get things done. Save that fiery initiative for the new guiding light, or the blaze of inspiration, but work in tandem with those who will bring benefit or results.
Learn to value those who can do what you cannot. You'll need to practice the diplomacy of restraint that ensures you get what you're after with a fist of iron in a velvet glove. If you're going to fight, then make it a duel according to the rules and not a street stoush, or an opportunist punch-up. The fluidity you encourage in 'you' will get you in or around obstacles, difficult people or delays, but your flame will still burn bright, especially midyear as Uranus flits into your sign, revolutionizing your ideas, your direction or yourself. Expect dramatic changes, restlessness, unusual individuals or situations and the lightning strike of the unpredictable. Jupiter joins Uranus in this gathering of Rams in June, ramping up the power or upping the ante but the best results will come if you navigate via contacts or associates and launch yourself in 2011. Mercury moves into retrograde motion three times a year for about three weeks each time. This phase heralds a time of confusion and misunderstandings that can affect arrangements, travel, transport, appliances, machinery and communications. The breakdowns that occur are a function of neglect, inattention, simple misunderstandings or component failure. They will often bring to the fore the very contingency we should have planned for and didn't. When the retrograde phase occurs, watch out for such possibilities as well as putting off major decision-making or the signing of crucial documents and agreements. We tend to miss things while Mercury is in reverse motion and then have to come back and do them again. A process of review in the retrograde phase can efficiently show where problems might lie and help us with damage control or the mending of things. Double check arrangements at these times! What you think you've said and what others have understood will often prove to be two different things.
The year begins with Mercury in reverse, tail turned in Capricorn and clashing with Mars retrograde in Leo. Don't take ill-judged risks, don't hit the accelerator instead of the brake, and don't speak before you know the facts. Crucial choices will come in the work of repair or remedy, so don't jump the wrong way under pressure. Go back and fix things, rather than getting huffy. Prepare for confusion, misunderstanding or delay in dealings with authority, career or in communication generally. Take on a new persona to get it sorted: a new basis for holding your own. Self-assertion is the requirement and gift of this year. Don't just blaze or drop the head and charge, negotiate the path. You'll make an important career decision, but realize what it is in retrospect. Mercury moves forward on January 15, emerging from the shadow phase on February 4.
In mid April, if you're listening for the familiar jingle of change for an extra latte or chilli burger, you might be disappointed. Mercury reverses in Taurus, the 'dollar' Bull on April 18, churning up bills, bank statements and bucks into a whirl of confusion. Sort the fiscals by communicating clearly about what's to be paid, saved or spent. Don't argue over dosh and don't let misunderstandings overwhelm you. You'll have a reversal or shift with money, unexpected expenses or changes with income or outgoings. Remember, Aries, it's a matter of sums, and black figures are better than red. If nothing adds up the way it should, consult someone who thinks practically, then start again. You'll need to talk, explain, negotiate or just figure out what went wrong. You may have to wait out a delay or overcome a glitch. Mercury moves forward on May 11, emerging from the shadow phase on May 29. Mercury's third reverse motion cycle for the year comes in Virgo and begins on Aug 20. Work or health concerns will be highlighted; you'll find that delays, unexpected turns of events, or communication problems will dog daily routine, sending you off on another track, or perhaps backtracking over something you thought was done and dusted. There will be tension with co-workers, or you'll manage in the absence of familiar faces or support. Your routines will be out of kilter, or altered by a hitch or glitch. Systems, devices or vehicles will be problematic, especially those used in work-related circumstances. Service early, don't regret later! Delays with news, goods or info will pop up; somehow there'll be a foul-up with rules, regulations or difficult authorities. It's in the detail, not your favourite thing, so get the head down and get the small stuff right. If there are negotiations over money or conditions, make them plain, practical and achievable. The Messenger moves forward on Sep 12, emerging from the shadow on Sep 27. The last 'turn tail' for Mercury comes in Capricorn on Dec 10. Once again, the arena of career is in focus as communications or dealings with authority, the public or professional links go awry or hit a fuzzy or testing patch. Try to anticipate any problems, double check arrangements or schedules, and stick to clear and simple speech or instructions. You may find yourself back with past duties or connections, or you'll be out of touch with the current lot. Redirect your career efforts or the raft of responsibilities, or you'll step aside or out of the game for a time. If situations or people seem to go against you, back off a little and see if you can get to the root of where things are going wrong. Mercury slips back into Sagittarius on Dec 18. Communications with overseas or touching on study or the law will come into the frame. You'll look to the wider world for a solution or seek legal redress for a problem. This is not a favourable time for travel, although necessity may demand it. News from afar may alter the big picture. Mercury moves forward on Dec 30.
Lunar Life with Lady Moon
Your New Moon comes on April 14, signalling a new start with your appearance, image, or your personal style and connections. The routines of work or health will feature in this, especially as Saturn has rolled back to Virgo and challenges Uranus in Pisces, moving forward. You'll need to shift the foundations of what you do or how you do it, or you'll watch them shift. Open to a wider view of what's possible, but also to a clear assessment of capability. Focus on the right mix of creative or spiritual and practical or remunerative. Good contacts will assist. Vision, higher education, or overseas travel or links will feature.
There are two Full Moons for you, in the first and last degree of your sign, creating an auspicious or defining period from Sep 23 to October 23. You'll see where you actually stand with many people and situations. With the Sun just in Libra and Saturn already there, squaring off the Lunar Nodes, Sep 23 will bring pressure or tension that may well see an ending or cessation put in place, as reserve, inhibition or separating streams take a grip on your life and the lives of those you deal closely with. You may find you're at odds—or at a parting of the ways. Love or money will be the issue, but, equally, it may be unclear as to how to proceed. October 23 represents a last ditch effort that could turn things round, but only if new strategies, practices or people play a part. You may have been sitting on a solution for a time without realizing it. Otherwise, it's 'goodnight, nurse' to the people, associations or involvements that no longer gel, or to the problems beyond remedy. Trust yourself, your own efforts and your own initiative. Equally, if a new association works, strengthen it.
Eclipses of both the Sun and the Moon often indicate the end of a cycle, or a significant change in the direction or pattern of the affairs governed by the house in which the eclipse falls. Eclipses of the Sun may affect work, direction and relations with people in authority. Eclipses of the Moon may affect matters of home, family and emotions as well as relations with women and children. Both may affect your health.
A New Moon and Solar Eclipse comes in Capricorn on Jan 15. Changes in profession or with a career connection will lead to disruption or cyclical end. A familiar face will pass from the ranks or you'll finish with a particular line of responsibility or duty. Someone may pull the plug on a larger situation that affects your individual efforts or involvements. There will be an end to a line of authority or obligation, especially where dealings with the public are in the frame.
A Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse comes in Capricorn on June 26, 2010. There'll be drama or intensity as you negotiate or test yourself against an obdurate individual or situation. Authorities or professional people will be involved, as you try to shift the ground with career or responsibilities. Pressures or changes with home or family life will push against the obligations or demands you face. Something will have to give and, as it won't be you, it'll have to be at one end or the other of the balance of personal and professional, public and private. A change or an ending is indicated, one that will push into new arenas of endeavour or contact. Travel, study or legal matters may also be in the picture through Jupiter in your sign and, with Uranus there as well, you'll respond in an unusual manner or with excitement, taking an entirely different course or undergoing a dramatic change.
A New Moon and a total Solar Eclipse comes in Cancer on July 11, 2010, closing a door or ending a cycle with domestic or family life, perhaps through changes or choices around the issues of love, money, work or health. There'll be a significant alteration in the family group, or there may even be a relocation of the home base. Emotion will run high at this point, but you could well find it draining or frustrating, so make sure you look after yourself, especially through diet and proper patterns of sleep or rest. Someone else's emotions or needs may eclipse your own, pressing you to give more than you feel able to. If you're set to make a break, make it a clean one.
A Full Moon and total Lunar Eclipse comes in Gemini on Dec 21, 2010. As Lady Moon opposes Mercury reversed in Sagittarius when she pulls a momentary disappearing act, the art of communications will be under pressure or temporarily lost to you or to someone close. In addition, the Sun in Sagittarius and Moon in Gemini square off Uranus, master of the radical, perverse or plain disturbing, as he floats backwards in Pisces. The unexpected will leap out of the blue to excite, upset, inspire—or turn things in reverse. Someone else's emotions or responses will burn bright, or alter their character completely. Expect a hit or a backlash in communications; you'll find you're wrestling with a surge of ideas, news or talk that'll leave you reeling, or send you running for the door. This could go very well, or turn you on your head. It all depends on how you take it. A contact or associate will ring down the curtain.
