    The Festival of the Law
Maat, Egyptian Goddess of JusticeThe Subtle Meanings of the Full Moon in Aries   part two

The Full Moon in Aries is the Full Moon period for Libra, because the Full Moon is always in the opposite sign to where the Sun is placed on that day. Malvin Artley, himself a Libran, continues his discussion the effects of the current Lunation and the associated planetary cycles. He looks at the energies of the Lords of Karma and the essential role of Saturn, the Supreme Architect and Teacher. Malvin also publishes a regular astrological newsletter, to which you can subscribe by clicking the link at the end of this article.

To the Angels, Saturn is the Supreme Architect and Teacher. The Angels revel in the work of Saturn and create all forms in response. There is no suffering in the Angelic realms, as we understand it. Everything is in perfect harmony to them and they joyfully go about their work, oblivious to the idea that we might be suffering as a result of what they have so justly provided for us. Our suffering is of our own creation--a reaction to a perceived limitation of some sort. In our highest Essence, we Know the limitless expanse of creation, the oneness of all that is, the bliss of perfect union and the brotherhood of all God's creatures, human and otherwise. But, because we are bound by our forms and identify with them, we suffer, until we finally break through the misconception and think in Truth. Also, because we have this inner Knowing and subconscious memory of the freedom of the higher worlds, our suffering is all the more acute. Truly has it been said that ignorance is bliss. Then again, so is liberation.

Saturn is also associated with karma, which is an aspect of divine Mind. Simply put, karma is actually the result of our past choices, whether in this life or a past one. It is, at one and the same time, a result and a consequent urge to further causation in response to any perceived limitation imposed by the karma. As we choose, so our fate or destiny is set, depending upon our polarization. (Fate and destiny are two very different things, but that is another paper.) In strictly individual terms, karma is not something that is imposed upon us. It is what we have asked for or chosen. This last statement puts us in mind of "Be careful what you ask for. You might get it!" In short, we should all weigh our choices carefully, which is why the typical Libran can be so agonizing to be around when they try to make what seems to be even a very simple decision. Every Libran carries somewhere within their consciousness this idea that choice is a very serious and far-reaching affair, even though the actual choice may be around a frivolous thing.

Choice brings opportunity with it, though. Every choice carries within it the seeds of our future unfolding or our future undoing. Even if the choice brings undoing, there is always the opportunity for future growth inherent in that. It is for this reason that Saturn, rather than Jupiter, is the planet of opportunity in esoteric astrology. In the world of meaning nothing gives us more opportunity than making the correct choices. The thing we have to realize is that conscious choices are not made with the reasoning mind, though. True, fully conscious choice is wrought through the intuition--the 6th sense. Our truth is not what we think. Our truth is conferred on us through our Dreaming--through the Soul. When our heads and hearts are fully blended, only then do we make our choices in Truth, in true Knowing. Neither heart nor head by itself is enough.

I have many friends who are at the moment undergoing this teaching by obstacle. It is not a kind or easy time from a human perspective. Past choices have brought their due. All people with the Sun in the first half of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) are undergoing these trials now. Some have recognized the purpose and have set themselves to task. They have made their choices based upon their inner Knowing and are generally succeeding, though the Way seems full of rocks and nails. The best course in most cases is to get on with the business at hand, to fulfill all responsibilities in as joyous a manner as possible, and to take as much time as possible to commune with one's higher Self and with loved ones. Struggle towards the Higher never goes unrewarded. We will see what due rewards come to leaders on the world stage over the next year for those leaders born in the aforementioned placements. George Bush is one such, although the true time for him is closer to the US election. He already struggles as we speak.

With the Sun sextiling Pluto and trining Neptune in this figure, due reward of Light and Love are bound to eventuate for all of us. These are aspects of profound inner Knowing, conferring ability to see beyond obstacles, to intuit the correct course of action and to see the continuum of choice and outcome. All that is necessary is a calm and steady contact with the higher Self. Venus is also trine to the all-too-familiar Mars/Uranus conjunction, guaranteeing the propriety of the chosen paths and relationships, as well as some unexpected useful alliances and new friendships--again, so long as the spiritual rites are maintained. Jupiter trining Chiron will aid greatly in the resolution of old wounds and bring resources to bear for the same. The main factor in the chart is the Saturn apex of the T-square. What choices will we and the leaders of the world make? Will we react and seal our fate, or respond from our inner sense and further fulfill our respective destinies? It should prove to be a very interesting year in that regard.
    Lords of Karma
Libra is said to be the most powerful of the signs from the standpoint of being able to manifest things. As the result of our choices we set manifold possible futures in motion as a result, and the most likely outcomes are decided by the greater Angels, which we know as the Lords of Karma. This is the Saturnian aspect of Libra. Thus, the lesser builders set about their task of building the forms we have chosen, all within the Law and with the greatest joyfulness and skill. The magical work of Uranus then takes over (the esoteric ruler of Libra), all behind the scenes and without our knowledge in most cases. Eventually, the work is done and the desired outcome manifests in the outer world. Establishing of new relations occurs, with many unexpected outcomes, (for things seldom work out as we envision them) and with an entirely new set of choices to be made. As we choose, so our relationships change, which brings in the orthodox ruler of Libra (Venus). The power of a thought is a magical thing, and all thoughts eventually manifest in some manner. The phrase "making up our minds" takes on a whole new meaning when we look at choice in this regard.

The symbol for the Sun in this full moon figure reads thus:

A retired sea captain watches ships entering and leaving the harbor. (17th degree of Libra)

Let us retire into ourselves in the coming days and watch as the fruits of our creations move in and out of our lives. The ocean of our individual and collective desiring has brought us all to our respective shores, some with ships intact and full of precious cargo, some in need of repair, but hopefully still afloat. As Souls, we have built the bodies we occupy and have retired inward, silently watching, waiting for the ship of our desiring to come home. And as we look out over the ocean of that desiring, we see our lives reflected back to us, as the ship comes home in the reflected light of our Dreaming. The light reveals to us our collective activity as the sun sets and the moon rises:

Nature spirits are seen at work in the light of sunset. (17th degree of Aries)

As you may have guessed, nature spirits are a class of lesser builders. As we dream, so we build. Nothing creates so powerfully as a dream. Nothing stirs the imagination so powerfully and sets the mind in motion as a dream unrealized. Our dreams take us to distant shores and to places we would scarcely imagine until we set sail. And as we choose our path, may we do so with the certain Knowing that is borne out of communion with our Highest, whatever that may be to us. May Saturn bring us all due reward of Light and Love in this Libran cycle. Though the choices may seem hard, the Teacher is always there--watching, waiting and urging us on toward the excellence that is within us all and toward the sweetness of Life that awaits us at the end of our journey. May your sails be full, your journey safe and your adventures full of joy!

    Much love to you all,
    Malvin
