| THE MATRIX: An Astrological Look at the Movie. Part Three: No-one has ever done anything like this...In part three of this groundbreaking article, Richard Giles concludes his analysis of the smash film "The Matrix", in the light of its many subtle references and the astrological indications connected with its release.
Neo now knows about the Matrix and re-enters it this time as a conscious being, no longer a sleeper. His object now is to meet the 'Oracle', known to Morpheus, and find out whether or not he is the 'One'. He's met Saturn (the agents) and Neptune (the Matrix is an illusion) and he's ready to know whether Morpheus is correct. When he enters the Oracle's apartment he meets some Indigo children (advanced and fully conscious) who have mastered the Matrix rules and do tricks with spoon bending to tell Neo he's heading the right way - "Do not try to bend the spoon, that's impossible. Instead only try to realise the truth; there is no spoon", says a six-year-old.
When he talks to the Oracle she plays it like an ordinary housewife, making cookies and chatting small talk. In the conversation she says, "Don't worry about the vase," just before Neo, in confusion, turns around and knocks over a vase smashing it in the kitchen and she hits him with the - "And what's really going to bake your noodle later on is, whether you'd still have broken it if I'd never mentioned it." Her question raises pre-destiny versus freewill issues putting the reality puzzle directly to him.
NO KID, YOU'RE NOT THE ONE
She looks at his hands and face as Neo asks, "I'm not the One?" She says, "Sorry kid, you've got the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something. Your next life maybe, who knows". Here we get the next key astrological factor as Pluto makes its entrance for the new stage of growth. The Oracle tells Neo one of them, he or Morpheus, is going to die and Neo has to make a decision as to which one it is. Breaking out of the Matrix is going to take circumstances in which death (Pluto) is met face to face, otherwise its not possible to muster the energy and determination to break out. Pluto (death and rebirth) and Chiron (the key, the turning point) are conjunct each other in Sagittarius (positive future vision) in the Matrix chart.
Morpheus is betrayed by Cypher to the Matrix agents and is being held in their headquarters in an impregnable military building. Morpheus cannot be rescued, because no-one has ever defeated any agent in combat. Neo tells Trinity he has to save Morpheus, as the Oracle has already told him (that predestination thing!) it will happen this way. Trinity tells him he can't do it - "Neo, no-one has ever done anything like this." and Neo utters that powerful line that is a key to the entire movie - "That's why its going to work!"
Carrie-Anne Moss who plays Trinity, the cool goddess in black leather, was born 21st August 1967 (Vancouver, Canada - time unknown). Another Leo Sun, which is conjunct three other planets including Ceres, the Earth Mother. Her chart has a Virgo line-up with that Uranus/Pluto conjunct Juno and in a wide connection to Venus. All are opposite her Moon in Pisces, creating a fundamental reformer role for her female lunar power. Juno is the goddess of marriage, queen of the heavens, the significator of steadfastness, devotion and loyalty and rules all one-to-one relationships. In Virgo, Juno seeks to achieve perfection in relationship and, as Trinity, she plays the woman who will unite with Neo, the 'One' to save the world. In conjunction with Uranus/Pluto she acts out the female partner to the 'One'.
Her natal chart shows Mars/Neptune in Scorpio square to her Leo line-up and, with all that transmundane power, it's no wonder she's a mean, black-clad martial artist who's mastered the art of zen-fighting in the Matrix. She's also the life-and-death resurrectional female power (Pluto opposite the Moon), as the final scenes of the film testify. Neo is shot dead after a titanic subway battle with Agent Smith, dying in a volley of bullets. Trinity breathes over his real dead body in the ship and she says, "I am not afraid anymore... so you see, you can't be dead, you can't be, because I love you. You hear me? I love you." Then she kisses him and asks, "Now get up."
Its the transcendental scene of the film (Uranus/Pluto)! It's where the love of the goddess revives the battered 'One'. She resurrects the wounded male (ego) and kissing him, brings him back to life. In the new film, Matrix Reloaded, Neo returns Trinity the same favour with the gift of life, once again defying the incontrovertible rules of physical life and death (Uranus/ Pluto). One of the meanings of Uranus/Pluto in Virgo is that the ordinary rules of life and death (Pluto) no longer apply because of Uranus's revolutionary nature.
FULL OF FEAR
This resurrectional theme is the same for us all as it is for Neo. Once you are no longer full of fear, the forces of control can't feed off you. Their hold over you and your life just falls away and you can step inside their empty shells as Neo does in the final scenes.
The Matrix Reloaded was released to the public on 16th May 2003, right on the Full Moon Lunar eclipse in Taurus/Scorpio. It quickly became the largest opening film in history taking $42 million (US) on the first day. The Lunar eclipse at 25 Taurus conjuncted Reeves' Jupiter ensuring his success and fame and squaring off Fishburne's Uranus/Nodes plus Carrie Anne-Moss's Leo stellium. That assures they won't escape the result of the film's world-wide impact.
The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon position of the May Lunar Eclipse is "An X-Ray Photograph Helps with the Diagnosis" (Scorpio 25). Lynda Hill's book explains this as "The X-ray photograph allows things to be revealed that otherwise would not be seen. It pierces through external layers to the core of things to show what's really there." This is just what the next Matrix movie is about, as the truth about the Matrix is fully revealed. Watching this we may have some powerfully confirmed suspicions about our society, its rules and the reasons for our being here. The Matrix movie is now moving inside you, the viewer.
In The Matrix Reloaded we come to the next stage of the struggle to beat the machine world with human ingenuity now coursing inside the Matrix. There are 250,000 machines heading for Zion, the last bastion of real humans deep within the bowels of the earth (Scorpio/Taurus). The commanders and council of Zion have to work out the way to save themselves in humanity's last stand. Meanwhile Morpheus, Trinity and Neo are on a quest to find the key to the Matrix and also save Zion. The Oracle told him he must find the door to the Source and he can do that via the Key Maker. Only the Key Maker knows the way in.
The Key Maker is Chiron who's symbol is in fact, a key. The Key Maker is pivotal to the story as only he can get Neo into the building to find the Source of the Matrix. And he can only do so when half a dozen preconditions are met, including turning off the electrical grid power (Uranus). Chiron is the planetary body which is a link in the connection between system and no-system, between Saturn - ruling our structured world, and Uranus - ruling beyond all systems. During Chiron's fifty year orbit, which is very elongated, it crosses Saturn's at its perihelion (closest point to the Sun) and at aphelion (farthest from the Sun) it crosses Uranus's orbit. So its the bridge between form and the non-conventional form represented by these two planets. Chiron is also the teachers' need to open new worlds to his students, so it initiates new horizons in esoteric knowledge. Chiron is prominent in all three Matrix film charts.
The last perihelion was February 1996 and from then, Chiron was moving away from Saturn towards Uranus bringing the need to break free and experiment. Interestingly too, the first of the people born with Uranus conjunct Pluto in Virgo (Uranus entered Virgo 10th August 1962) will turn fifty and begin their Chiron Returns in mid 2012, the great Mayan year of transformation, the end of known time and supposed beginning of a new world cycle.
NEVER A STRAIGHT NEPTUNE
The Oracle meanwhile reveals to Neo that she is actually another program in the multi-software programs of the Matrix. Oops. More Neptunian confusion, puzzles and disillusionment. Following that revelation, in a dazzling display of cinema pyrotechnics, Neo fights up to a hundred Mr Smiths -- who now seems to have morphed into something new. The man, the Oracle told him, who holds the Key Maker captive is the Merovingian. They front him in his restaurant and after a fight with his kung fu goons, some passionate kissing for Neo, and a massive freeway car chase in which 300 real vehicles (I'm informed) were destroyed, they make their way to a huge building which houses a multidimensional set of gateways, only one of which is to open (for just 314 seconds) and leads to The Source. More is revealed about the Matrix, but the final sequel, The Matrix Revolution, (still to come in November) gives us conclusions.
The release date for Matrix Revolution is November 5th 2003, just 4 days from the next Solar Eclipse, and its natal chart gives clues to the path of this metaphysical odyssey. There is a Water Grand Trine involving Sun in Scorpio, Saturn in Cancer and Mars in Pisces. A Water grand trine allows a response to the subtle undercurrents in life. It has an ability to sense the subterranean energies in people and thus empathise or sympathise with them. Turning to the needs of the mass consciousness for healing purposes is one of the outcomes (from Bil Tierny). Sun, Saturn and Mars together in Water can indicate powerful protection, sensitivity, unconscious motivations and power in the intuitive and emotional subtler side of behaviour. Saturn rules the rule-makers and Mars is the primeval force of fight-back we've seen a feature of the Neo/Trinity/Morpheus triumvirate attack on the Matrix and its agents. It augers well for a positive and successful outcome for the plight of humans trapped in their matrix of dreams - and maybe us?
A look at the brilliant and epic-obsessed Wachowski brothers, the writer/directors, would not be amiss here. They were born: Larry, 21st June 1965 and Andy, 29 December 1967 both in Libertyville, Illinois (times uncertain). Both are right in the seminal Uranus/Pluto conjunction period with Larry having a line-up of four Pisces planets opposing the conjunction and Andy having Chiron exact opposition to the conjunction. Interestingly, both brothers have Venus (creative, artistic female power) in positive aspect to Neptune, ruler of cinema. Larry has Venus in Cancer trine Neptune and Andy has Venus in Scorpio exactly conjunct Neptune. They were born to express this matrix power of rebellious change through their artistic creative energies.
The Matrix paves the way for a new generation of movies which open internal channels within the brain to help understand and empower ourselves to X-ray this reality. On the other hand, as a friend suggested, it may be just fostering a popcorn revolution generation who only sit on seats in cinemas, but are unable to apply the real lessons in The Matrix to their lives.
Speculating on the purpose and deeper meaning of this triple movie epic can be fun and sometimes mindblowing. It could also become too serious and overblown. But I think you might agree, after reading here, that the charts for the movie release dates and the actors and directors therein show some mighty interesting stuff. Perhaps a path for the next ten years, or perhaps its just a bit of popcorn headstuff. Time will tell.
Let Neo have the last word. I'll leave you to ruminate on his stirring speech from the first Matrix movie at the very end of the film:
"I don't know the future.........
I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end,
I came here to tell you how this is going to begin".
