Each month, with the event of the New Moon, we are given a space to renew ourselves spiritually, take stock of our lives, and recharge our energies. It is a wonderful
opportunity to set goals for the month, writing down our deepest desires and heart-felt wishes. The new moon column that she writes will help readers find inspiration and
guidance.

On April 8, 2005, at 3:33 pm Eastern Standard Time (20:33 GMT), the New Moon will occur in the sign of Aries, the Ram. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, the beginning of the Astrological year. When the Moon is exactly conjunct the Sun (sharing its astrological degree), it is no longer visible in the sky and at this point in the lunar cycle it is called a "New Moon". This occurs once every month (in rare instances, twice) and marks the beginning of a new monthly astrological cycle. Ronni's monthly column explores some valuable ways to get the best out of the new lunation. The new moon in Aries is very significant as a time of beginnings and of making a fresh start. Aries signifies the renewal of the life force—and this year, it's a Solar Eclipse!
The New Moon signifies a start of a new personal cycle each month. It's a time to renew or revise our goals, reach for what we wish for most and renew ourselves. When setting goals or aspiring towards our dreams and desires it is important to keep a few things in mind. First of all, our wishes can only involve ourselves. We cannot try to change others, only our attitudes towards those people, in hopes that they will respond favorably to us. Another important aspect of this process is to meditate on the qualities of the sign that the new moon is occurring in. These astrological qualities will give us powerful hints on what to strive for, and how to approach or strategize towards what we want to accomplish. It is a good idea to set approximately 10 goals or wishes each month. Jan Spiller in New Moon Astrology also suggests that you do not combine several wishes into one wish! Keep your thoughts clear and separate, and write them down each month. I recommend a special notebook or journal exclusively used for this purpose.
Visualize Your Wishes
It is often best not to include a wish unless you can clearly visualize it coming into fruition within your imagination. If not, there may be preliminary steps you need to take first, so instead, try visualizing these. Trust your feelings and intuition in this process- you will know instinctively what feels right. Some wishes become realized soon after the new moon. Others are more resistant and can take many months. Keep repeating wishes each month until they begin coming true as long as you continue to believe that they are right for you. When things in your life such as people, events, and your own attitudes begin to "shift", welcome this new change as evidence that your life is changing as a result of your positive intentions. Each month I will share my reflections on the new moon based on the sign it moves into to help you in your own process. Using the New Moon in such a way is what I call Astrology in action!
The New Moon in Aries is about Making a New Start
On April 8, 2005 the New Moon will be in Aries. This will happen at exactly 3:33 pm Eastern Standard Time. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, which signals the beginning of the Astrological year. Astrologically, this is the start of a new lunar as well as a new solar cycle. The New Moon in Aries then, is very significant as a time of beginnings and of making a fresh start. Aries signifies the renewal of the life force. It is no coincidence that it coincides with the beginning of spring!
A Double-Eclipse Month
This is an unusual Aries New Moon, as it occurs during a Solar Eclipse. There will also be a lunar eclipse later this month when the Moon is full. Being a double-eclipse month, changes will be made in the way we see reality. According to Jeff Lawler at StarIQ.com "The solar eclipse in Aries shows us that change is not simply a force moving forward, but is made possible by breaking with the past. We can feel like we are standing on shaky ground...(as if) there is nothing to hold onto, but this needn't be a cause of anxiety. It is, rather, an awareness that sets us free." I sense a very powerful energy that is blocked from its usual flow right now, due to external circumstances. There are times when our energy or desires perhaps cannot go forward, but we can use these times to fall back upon ourselves to enable greater self-discovery and introspection. Things being created in our lives now are complex and require contemplation.
A Time To "Shed Our Skin"
The New Moon is conjunct Venus, the planet of love and grace, as well as trined by the powerful and transformational planet, Pluto. The New Moon also conjuncts the north node in Aries this month. This is of paramount significance. Although it feels challenging we must believe in ourselves, and trust our hearts at this time. We may experience a change of our personal energies, a letting go of an outmoded idea of ourselves. There can be a burning off of our energies, like the shedding of our "skin", a painful process, but afterwards we become a better and fresher version of ourselves.
This may be a time when we find ourselves pushing past selfish desires to reach out to others in our environment. It is a time to notice those we have overlooked as we get caught up in the dramas of our lives. When we reach out in this way we not only help the other person, but we have caused something important to shift within ourselves. In this way, one small step at a time, we are transformed. Therefore, no "little" event that happens to us is really small, and every chance meeting with another person is really another avenue for personal growth and profound change. We are all in this world together, all tiny pieces that make up the big "whole".
This is a time to take that sense of self and transform it into purposeful energy. The impatience of Aries must now be transformed into brave and steady persistence! We may have to take some detours on our life's path, but the energy and the will to continue will not be blocked. Don't lose sight of your heart-felt wishes this month, but do allow for obstacles which may present themselves. At this time it is best to use challenges that occur as vehicles for self-reflection, re-charging and re-direction.
The Foundation Of The Year
The sign of Aries is the foundation upon which the rest of the astrological year stands. The other signs or influences will not amount to anything positive without the influence of Aries and the strong sense of self that this energy
blesses us with. Aries teaches us to love and believe in ourselves first, as a foundation for all other thoughts or actions.
Saturn's influence is configured with the New Moon this month in a square aspect from the sign of Cancer, which indicates that we will be accountable for our actions. We may also feel inhibited to act due to a fear of losing our sense of safety and security. We must be able to take responsibility for what we do or say, but if we do, the effects of our actions will endure in a positive way. At this time there is just a little caution that must be adhered to when trying new things. It is helpful to sit back and reflect rather than acting on pure impulse. Because of Saturn's influence we can set realistic long-term goals for ourselves. Right now we are able to lay the foundation for long-term changes in our lives and in the world at
large.
The next new moon will be in Taurus on May 8 at 3:46 AM.
