Ronni Lynn (Sun in Capricorn, Moon in Gemini) has been studying and practising astrology for over 30 years. She is interested in the psychological and spiritual effects that planetary influences have on us. Ronni uses astrology as a tool to help others evolve and develop their higher selves.
Each month, with the event of the New Moon, we are given a space to renew ourselves spiritually, take stock of our lives, and recharge our energies. It is a wonderful
opportunity to set goals for the month, writing down our deepest desires and heart-felt wishes. The new moon column that she writes will help readers find inspiration and
guidance.

On June 6, 2005, at 4:56 PM, eastern standard time (06:22 GMT), the New Moon will occur in the sign of Gemini, the Twins. When the Moon is exactly conjunct the Sun (sharing its astrological degree), it is no longer visible in the sky and at this point in the lunar cycle it is called a "New Moon". This occurs once every month (in rare instances, twice) and marks the beginning of a new monthly astrological cycle. Ronni's monthly column explores some valuable ways to get the best out of the new lunation.
The New Moon signifies a start of a new personal cycle each month. It's a time to renew or revise our goals, reach for what we wish for most and renew ourselves. When setting goals or aspiring towards our dreams and desires it is important to keep a few things in mind. First of all, our wishes can only involve ourselves. We cannot try to change others, only our attitudes towards those people, in hopes that they will respond favorably to us. Another important aspect of this process is to meditate on the qualities of the sign that the new moon is occurring in. These astrological qualities will give us powerful hints on what to strive for, and how to approach or strategize towards what we want to accomplish.
It is a good idea to set approximately 10 goals or wishes each month. The wording of your wishes should resonate within you, giving you a feeling of peace and joy when you read them back to yourself. If not, cross that wish out and try writing it another way, or go onto a different wish. Jan Spiller in New Moon Astrology also suggests that you do not combine several wishes into one wish! Keep your thoughts clear and separate, and write them down each month. I recommend a special notebook or journal exclusively used for this purpose.
Write down your wishes as close to the time of the actual new moon as is possible. You have up to 48 hours to write them, with the first eight hours being the most potent.
Visualize Your Wishes
It is often best not to include a wish unless you can clearly visualize it coming into fruition within your imagination. If not, there may be preliminary steps you need to take first, so instead, try visualizing these. Trust your feelings and intuition in this process- you will know instinctively what feels right. Some wishes become realized soon after the new moon. Others are more resistant and can take many months. Keep repeating wishes each month until they begin coming true as long as you continue to believe that they are right for you. When things in your life such as people, events, and your own attitudes begin to "shift", welcome this new change as evidence that your life is changing as a result of your positive intentions. Each month I will share my reflections on the new moon based on the sign it moves into to help you in your own process. Using the New Moon in such a way is what I call Astrology in action!
Gemini Is About Spontaneity And Relevance
The new moon occurs this month in the versatile sign of Gemini. This will occur on June 6, 2005 at 4:56 PM, eastern standard time. Gemini is a mutable or changeable sign and a dualistic sign because it is represented by "The Twins". Because of these factors, this is a sign about perpetual activity and the ability to adapt to any situation and express something about it. True communication stems from being available to what is around us and responding to whatever happens to occur with freedom and spontaneity. Rather than the intellectual approach of planning your message to others in advance (leave that to Gemini's opposite sign, Sagittarius), Gemini has the ability to be spontaneous and completely relevant to the present environment.
Leaving Behind Our Baggage
Rather than having expectation on others about what they "ought" to say or be, this versatile sign just goes with the flow. Experiencing life in the present moment is the gift that this friendly, gentle and versatile sign has to offer us. Being in the present moment in this way helps us develop a light approach to situations as we leave our "baggage" behind us. With this light-hearted approach it is easier to find laughter and humor in life. With this openness comes the adaptability and ease that Gemini is famous for. Therefore I can't help but think that this month is a good time to rid ourselves of excess psychological "baggage" which is where many of these pre-conceived "heavy" expectations originate.
A Time To Make Decisions
Your life's course can be seen as a series of "yes" and "no" decisions. For Gemini some of these decisions can take a long time while much information is gathered in order to make the best possible choice. Gemini chooses what it desires after figuring out the best decision based upon what is available. Gemini is clever enough to find easy solutions through an exceptionable ability to interact with his or her environment. This is a time when simplicity works well, when there is less need for abstract, complex resources to fill our needs. Gemini works quickly and comes up with easy success and simple solutions. In the process this sign is having a lot of fun!
Gemini is represented by the symbol of "The Twins". Simultaneously, each twin can see both sides of any situation! When Gemini makes a decision it is based upon this unique ability to turn things upside down and inside out and see all aspects of a situation before making that decision. The sign of Gemini has a reputation for being fickle- but I see Gemini's changeable behavior - so prevalent in this sign, as Gemini's need for experimentation (to help them see both sides- each twin needs to take their turn!) and fact seeking before a true decision is made. After some experimentation, Geminis make decisions. Choosing from what available around you is empowering, and comes from a position of strength and abundance.
A Breath Of Fresh Air
Geminis are information gatherers. They get to know their immediate environment by by trying out various aspects of it, learning how their actions create an effect upon it and through learning two-way communication. Geminis are master communicators! Although this sign produces great speakers and writers, what makes these people truly great is the ability that they have to listen. They can hear the story of others as well as wait around to see and hear the reaction other people have to their words. When they communicate with others they stay within the spontaneity of the present moment. This kind of freedom helps us drop the tendency to be judgmental and gives the other person needed space just to be themselves. Interpersonally, this a much needed breath of fresh air. Gemini appreciates all of the interconnections around him/her. Life from the eyes of the "Twins" is one network of communication that exists between all people and all creatures of the earth. Gemini's spirit continually adapts to the ever-changing content of life as it taps into this network of words, events and ideas. Gemini means versatility.
Becoming A Great Listener
Being a great listener is an art. When was the last time you ever tried completely listening to someone? When you didn't understand something, even if you felt foolish, were you able to ask for clarification? This is a skill that takes work, but it is well worth it. It is important to do this with significant others, those you are close to, but it is also wonderful to try it with the people you meet on a casual or chance basis. Try it with the man in the supermarket line, people that you communicate with at work, and just about anybody that you happen to speak with. This month it might be a fun challenge for us to attempt to listen closely to every word that people say to us, and to ask them questions when they say things that we do not
understand. When you ask questions, you show the other person that you are interested in them- that you are genuinely hearing them. When you actually do understand what the other person is telling you their message becomes much more interesting and you come away nine times out of ten with a little more knowledge, and even a litle more compassionate then you just were. This is the spirit of Gemini. There is something to learn from everyone. With Gemini's spirit, even the simple, casual, everyday life experience can contain the possibilities for profound growth.
The next new moon will be in the sign of Cancer on July 6 2005 at 7:03 am E.S.T. Come visit me then or a day before for more New Moon reflections.
Wishing you joy and blessings –
