Each month, with the event of the New Moon, we are given a space to renew ourselves spiritually, take stock of our lives, and recharge our energies. It is a wonderful
opportunity to set goals for the month, writing down our deepest desires and heart-felt wishes. The new moon column that she writes will help readers find inspiration and
guidance.

On May 8, 2005, at 3:47 AM Eastern Standard Time (08:47 GMT), the New Moon will occur in the sign of Taurus, the Bull. When the Moon is exactly conjunct the Sun (sharing its astrological degree), it is no longer visible in the sky and at this point in the lunar cycle it is called a "New Moon". This occurs once every month (in rare instances, twice) and marks the beginning of a new monthly astrological cycle. Ronni's monthly column explores some valuable ways to get the best out of the new lunation.
The New Moon signifies a start of a new personal cycle each month. It's a time to renew or revise our goals, reach for what we wish for most and renew ourselves. When setting goals or aspiring towards our dreams and desires it is important to keep a few things in mind. First of all, our wishes can only involve ourselves. We cannot try to change others, only our attitudes towards those people, in hopes that they will respond favorably to us. Another important aspect of this process is to meditate on the qualities of the sign that the new moon is occurring in. These astrological qualities will give us powerful hints on what to strive for, and how to approach or strategize towards what we want to accomplish.
It is a good idea to set approximately 10 goals or wishes each month. The wording of your wishes should resonate within you, giving you a feeling of peace and joy when you read them back to yourself. If not, cross that wish out and try writing it another way, or go onto a different wish. Jan Spiller in New Moon Astrology also suggests that you do not combine several wishes into one wish! Keep your thoughts clear and separate, and write them down each month. I recommend a special notebook or journal exclusively used for this purpose.
Write down your wishes as close to the time of the actual new moon as is possible. You have up to 48 hours to write them, with the first eight hours being the most potent.
Visualize Your Wishes
It is often best not to include a wish unless you can clearly visualize it coming into fruition within your imagination. If not, there may be preliminary steps you need to take first, so instead, try visualizing these. Trust your feelings and intuition in this process- you will know instinctively what feels right. Some wishes become realized soon after the new moon. Others are more resistant and can take many months. Keep repeating wishes each month until they begin coming true as long as you continue to believe that they are right for you. When things in your life such as people, events, and your own attitudes begin to "shift", welcome this new change as evidence that your life is changing as a result of your positive intentions. Each month I will share my reflections on the new moon based on the sign it moves into to help you in your own process. Using the New Moon in such a way is what I call Astrology in action!
The New Moon in Taurus is about Getting Grounded
On Tuesday, May 8, 2005 the new moon will be in the sign of Taurus. This will happen at exactly 3:47 AM Eastern Standard Time.
Taurus is a fixed Earth sign, ruling the natural second house of the zodiac which governs material possessions, income, a sense of physical enjoyment and personal comfort. On a spiritual level Taurus is a sign that reflects finding peace and contentment within ourselves. The spirit of Taurus gives us a feeling of stability and groundedness. It is a sense of staying in one place—a place that is comfortable and nurturing to us—and growing roots there.
Because Taurus is all about staying in one place the peacefulness that I speak of comes from within the self rather than from searching for it externally. Paradoxically, finding this sense of peace within (and with) oneself does not come from trying to fix what we feel is wrong with ourselves. Instead, I believe, it is about quieting our mind and letting our true selves emerge, in an environment of unconditional self-love and self-acceptance.
Inner Stillness
Peace cannot be attained by jumping from one thought to the next, one goal to the next goal, one place to the next place or from person to person. When there is an excess of movement or agitation in our lives we are not being still enough to find peace. It is only when we develop a feeling of inner stillness and centeredness that we can then find a way to naturally express and resonate our true nature within all of our experiences. With this in mind, we can start to see that it is not the quantity of experiences but their quality and depth of experience that counts. It is primarily what we bring of ourselves to our experiences that makes them significant to us.
In the physical body Taurus rules the throat and the voice. It is the expression of our physical voices that reflects our true nature or blockages to our self-expression. Muscular tensions which are usually brought about by stress and agitation can often block our voice and how we express ourselves. When we can release these tensions our voices become pleasing and effortless. Speaking or singing needs to be produced with the least amount of effort. Your self-expression can become more of a reflection of who you really are as you feel more peaceful, relaxed and grounded. Allow yourself to drink up all the beauty that is within yourself and all around you and to express it to others.
Rich Experiences
With an increased sense of inner peace comes rich experiences that unfold over time. We just have to stay put and have trust in ourselves and faith in the universe. If we can develop this inner attitude we can attract abundance. This is how Taurus has come to rule material possessions- Taurus finds a good environment, stays there, and accumulates the things that are enjoyed for both their spiritual and material value. Like attracts like. Abundance attracts even more abundance!
The time of the Taurus new moon is a time for allowing ourselves to be loved unconditionally, and bring out our inner nature without judgment. Unconditional self-love creates an environment for true self-expression. This is a time to find those situations that resonate peacefulness within us. It might be a goal this month to find one (or more) areas in your life where you can develop a more peaceful, stable approach. This may be a time to find something that resonates for you in a positive way and stay there in a very focused manner- whether it is a relationship, a creative endeavor or a project. Don't be surprised if this area becomes a wonderful reflection of the beautiful being that you really are.
The next new moon will be in Gemini on June 6 at 4:56 PM.
