    White-capped Waves...
Clipper Under SailGold From The Sea

In this third part of the article, Malvin Artley concludes his discussion of the New Moon in Sagittarius, in terms of the Chinese way of thinking and the concept of "Gold From The Sea". This time is one of great inner reorganisation and the lunations are gateways to the spirit. Malvin also publishes a regular astrological newsletter, to which you can subscribe by clicking the link at the end of this article.

There is indeed a reorganization going on in the inner planes for so many people and groups. As we ascend above the old ways and redeem the outmoded expressions of the past a renewed vigor and vision is needed for the road ahead, which leads in the interim to the eclipse of the 2004 Wesak moon. Sagittarius fits the bill for this quite amply. Of course, all occurrences such as eclipses and alignments are but some of the many and myriad signposts and opportunities along the Way. Each of us resonates and responds to these things in differing measures and we should hold in our minds that there will be ample opportunities for all of us in these most auspicious of periods in Earth's history. There are very few things in life that are actually "once in a lifetime", especially if we look at them from the perspective of the timelessness of the Soul.

The eclipse of the 24th began the 1st month of the Chinese year (Their lunar New Year actually begins on their third month.), and is the month of the Yang Wood Rat, also called the "Rat on the Roof". This Rat on the Roof is actually a water rat, although the element for the month is Yang Wood. The synthetic element for this month is of interest, because it is metal, and is called "Gold from the Sea". For those readers unfamiliar with this aspect of Chinese astrology, every hour, day, month and year, carries these sorts of descriptors, which are all parts of a cycle of 60 involving varying combinations of their polarities (Yin and Yang), five elements and 12 phases (branches), known in the West as animals. In fact, it is rare for a true Chinese astrologer to use animals for the branches, knowing them to be phases instead of elements, although every phase has its qualities as is the same as in Western astrology. The first month is always a "Rat" month, but the element and its polarity changes every year.

Chinese ZodiacThe upshot from the preceding marks this month and thus this Sagittarius phase of the year (for the two are almost identical this year), as a month of great expansion and outward focus from the Yang Wood. It is a time to bring the imagination to bear in the solution of problems and challenges, a time of growth (expansion), inventiveness, vision and a time where one should adapt an attitude of bearing, for Wood is always forthright when strong. The fact it is a Yang month indicates one should focus inner resources outward toward the community, rather than being withdrawn and inwardly-focused. The Rat on the Roof lends further support to this because it indicates a phase of commencement wherein one should always take the highest perspective possible and endeavor to get the "big picture" for the benefit of those not able to see from that height. The water in this phase points to the use of the intuition and that it is a period wherein the communion between the inner and outer worlds will be much facilitated, even though the primary focus of the month is outward.

"Gold from the Sea", refers to what can be had if our efforts are successful. The synthesis of metal points to the fact that what will ultimately come from this Sagittarian period will be an increase in strength, a progressive and vigorous attitude, with the eloquence of the Soul shining through in one's efforts and the courage to put one's plans into action. The first Branch (Rat) of any pillar in Chinese astrology always indicates a phase of commencement and the Rat month always overlaps Sagittarius somewhat. This is definitely a month wherein new things will be implemented, or at least set in motion. All this is further indicated by what will be garnished from this coming full moon.

The Sagittarius full moon of 2003 occurs at 7:39 AM AEDT on the 9th of December 2003. The Sun will be at the 17th degree of Sagittarius, the symbol for which reads thus:

"An Easter sunrise service draws a large crowd."

Easter is always associated with the death of the persona and the consequent resurrection of the Christ (Soul) within. What we have seen happening with the eclipse of the 24th and the square with Uranus only lends support to this. It points to the possibility or likelihood that there will be a strong registering of that Christ light within the community of humanity during this full moon period due to the work of clearing and ascension done over the last two eclipses, which will further aid in the work of the new impulses given over the last few weeks. The Sun and Moon form a T-square with Jupiter at the apex in this full moon figure, which goes right along with the Yang Wood in the Chinese astrology, since Jupiter rules Wood in their system. It will contribute a strong note of expansiveness and magnanimity to the period.

Pluto is conjoined to the Sun, adding the force of Will and the impulse to clear away obstacles to the festival, which I have called "The Festival of the Disciple" in the past. Pluto also brings things into a very sharp focus and adds a note of urgency, as well as a note of healing, to the work to be done. If there has been anything left undone by Uranus from the last eclipse (which is a bit unlikely) Pluto will tie up any loose ends. This will be a most potent and powerful full moon with such a T-square, and presents a brilliant opportunity for the furtherance of the work of Goodwill throughout the world.

Mercury and Venus are opposed by Saturn in this figure, which adds a note of caution and reticence in affairs of the heart, of which the spiritual Path is the highest expression for humanity. It highlights the need for patience and tolerance, for clarity and care in thought, for a letting go and resolution of past hurts and of the need to forget oneself in the service of others. Venus is trine to Jupiter, though, which can add expansiveness and more of a sense of joy once the hard work of clearing is done. This will lend support when the going gets rough, remembering that this full moon sets the tone for discipleship activities throughout the entire year and not just for the month. Venus also conjoins Chiron in this figure, also trined by Jupiter, indicating that healing and restitution can and will come, so long as one is willing to do the work.

From what has preceded this full moon we should now be sensing a vision of things to come and of the goal(s) to be achieved. The keynote of discipleship in Sagittarius is the sensing of the goal, achievement of that through one-pointed aspiration and idealism and, finally, the sensing of yet the next step to be achieved along the Way, thus starting the entire process anew. The Sagittarian is thus the traveler on the never-ending quest for the highest of goals, hence its association in the orthodox with long journeys, philosophy and the highest ideals.

Mars, being the hierarchical ruler of Sagittarius rules the hierarchy of lives called the Lunar Lords - the devas of the physical, astral and lower mental realms. It is these devas who compose the very "stuff" of our lower bodies, and they thus form a parallel evolution to ours. It is quite true that our bodies reflect our consciousness and that illness in any of the four lunar (personal) bodies is the result of some class of erroneous thought, from the standpoint of the higher self. The Lunar Lords have never been human. That is the goal of their attainment. As a result of their interaction with us, their own--as well as our--evolution is hastened. The consciousness of the Lunar Lords is instinctive and, in a sense, we "ride upon their backs" from an evolutionary perspective; or, at least we should. The lunar bodies are the animal part of our nature and are that part of one's being over which the disciple is always seeking to have dominion. The problem for the vast majority of people is that they are still largely identified with the lunar part of themselves, rather than the higher Self, which is the self-conscious part of us.

The masses of humanity are therefore still in the centaur phase of their relationship with the Lunar Lords. In fact, we all go through phases of this. The centaur is half-human and half-horse, or beast. As humans, we are still part animal and part spiritual. It will be of interest to note, too, that there is a class of lunar lives that actually are centaurs - the Pan elementals. They are astral, but they are not self-conscious. It has also been said that Sagittarians are particularly prone to their influence during certain phases of the Moon. The more spiritually oriented Sagittarians are not really hooked into to this type of thing, but the ancient resonance is still there and was particularly strong in the days of Atlantis, when we could all still see on astral levels.

The goal for every disciple with respect to the Lunar devas is to evolve beyond the centaur phase and to separate from it, becoming the archer on horseback - still connected with the animal, but not of it. All people who strongly aspire to the spiritual life are in this phase, or are rapidly approaching it. The goal for every Lunar Lord is to become self-conscious, thus rising above the instinctive consciousness, and to thus become human. This will occur in many millions of years hence. But, the ideal as registered through Sagittarius is still there. Through the conflict between the human and deva lines at those levels, through the steady creation of forms in response to the highest ideals that they can register (for the devas always seek to create in perfect accord with the impulse and plan they are given) and through the steady tearing down of those forms via the action of Mars (Mars works along the lines of the Destroyer as well as along the lines of Idealism.) the lunar devas have full opportunity for their evolutionary unfoldment just as we do - and in concert with us. The only difference is one of consciousness and previous attainment over the history of our solar system and even further back.

As we walk the Path together this year let us be mindful of what has been given to us over the past several weeks as well as through previous cycles. The keynotes of Sagittarius are particularly and potently with us at this time - courage, daring, imagination, a progressive view, expansiveness, directness, focus and strength. All these things are very much needed as we move toward the high point of the spiritual year of Aries through Gemini. May the arrows of your spiritual ambitions and ideals fly straight to their mark and thus enable you to attain your goals. Also, may Uranus bring that needed freedom we all so very much need to enable us to move upon the face of the waters with grace and with skill, far clear of the rocks which have hindered us in the past. Finally, may the sea of your own desiring be filled with the golden wisdom that comes from a life of work and service well-lived and from a heart that loves well - to be treasured for all time and to be given as treasure to all whom we encounter.

    Many blessings to you all,

    Malvin.
