Part One -- Planets and Aspects
Each of us has every planet in his or her chart. Each planet symbolizes a different facet of life. In synastry, when we compare two charts, we look at the aspects (distance in degrees) between the planets of one chart and the planets of the other to determine areas of potential ease or difficulty. In general, sextiles and trines are easy aspects; squares and oppositions are challenging or dynamic aspects. Conjunctions can be either easy or difficult, depending on the planets involved.

    Common Aspects

    Venus square Venus
This square is often an indication of sexual or emotional attraction. Although squares are generally considered aspects of tension, in this case, the tension is likely to be expressed more as excitement or sexual tension. You are likely to have different tastes in music, clothing, entertainment and decor, but this can as easily be a positive difference as a negative, with each of you introducing the other to new things. You each bring different tangible and intangible items of worth, and somewhat different perspectives on values to the relationship. Whether these fulfill the other's needs depends more on the aspects and house positions of each of your Mars to the other's Venus.

    Venus opposite Mars
Opposites attract and this aspect makes the point more emphatically than most. This opposition between Mars and Venus is often a sign of strong sexual attraction. It may also signify clashes between what the Mars person desires and what the Venus person can give in a relationship. At times, the Mars person is likely to seem insensitive, selfish and aggressive to the Venus person. The Venus person is likely to occasionally seem to frustrate the Mars person's desires and needs. When this combination works well, it can be very steamy and passionate. When it's not working as well, there can be anger, tension, jealousy and hurt feelings all around.

    Mars square Mars
If your relationship sometimes feels like love and at other times feels like war, this square should account for the warlike characteristics. It tends to be a particularly difficult aspect. While it may indicate sexual attraction it also usually indicates two people who see challenges in a great deal of what the other says and does. You may wound each other's egos without meaning to (or possibly, sometimes, because you fully intend to). There is the potential for lots of conflict, arguing and inconsiderate behavior toward one another. On the positive side, you can greatly energize each other. But it may be difficult to work cooperatively together unless other aspects in the comparison indicate the ability to be tactful and patient with one another.

Bruce Willis's Planets Aspecting Demi Moore's Planets

    Sun trine Venus
Generally speaking, this aspect shows that you can enjoy yourselves together and that you have harmonious tastes in entertainment, art, and other pleasurable activities. You tend to support each other's interests and means of self-expression. This trine may show sexual attraction and compatibility, especially, but not necessarily, if the Sun person is male and the Venus person is female. This trine can indicate that your focus as a couple is often on having a good time, and may involve occasional displays of extravagance.

    Moon conjunct Saturn
This can be a difficult aspect in a relationship chart for a number of reasons. It tends to limit the partners' ability to express emotions to and about one another. It's not that the feelings aren't there. However, there is a tendency to impose rules and conditions on the way feelings may be expressed. Often this is because one of you has conflicting emotional or familial obligations. The restrictions generally tend to occur on the Saturn person's side, and can cause the Moon person frustration and depression. The Saturn person meanwhile, may be thrown off balance by the Moon person 's moodiness or may feel uncomfortable with the Moon person's desire for closeness. Even in a relationship where there are none of the aforementioned emotional boundaries, and you enjoy a balanced partnership, there may be rather domestic responsibilities to contend with.

    Mercury conjunct Jupiter
The two of you are likely to have an intellectual rapport and share a similar educational perspective. This tendency to be on the same wavelength mentally means that your conversations will be stimulating and enjoyable, although you may find yourselves in agreement so often that you will need outside influences to explore new territory. The Jupiter person can bring broader perspectives and a more expansive point of view to the Mercury person; while the Mercury person can get the Jupiter person out of his or her ivory tower and into the daily fray. You may travel quite a bit together. But, even if you don't get the opportunity to get away much, when you do travel as a team, you're likely to accentuate each other's enjoyment of the experience.

    Mercury opposite Uranus
This can be an intellectually stimulating aspect. Each of you is likely to surprise the other with your point of view. You also tend to bring out the inventiveness in one another . You may find it difficult to relax in each other's company though, as this opposition tends to accentuate any predisposition to nervousness.

    Venus square Neptune
Because Neptune spends so many years in each sign, everyone born within a few years of each other will have Neptune in more or less the same position. This square is therefore more significant as an indication of the Venus person's response to an entire generation than as indication of one-to-one relationship traits. If the square is within a degree or two or exact, it can show heightened romanticism in a relationship, which may or may not be based on reality. There is the possibility that one or both of you will put the other on a pedestal and will be disappointed if that other turns out to be only human after all . In general you'll have difficulty seeing each other clearly and will be more likely to be gullible with each other.

    Mars opposite Neptune
Because Neptune spends so many years in each sign, everyone born within a few years of each other will have Neptune in more or less the same position. This opposition is therefore more significant as an indication of the Mars person's response to an entire generation than as a trait in a one-to-one personal relationship. If the aspect is within a degree or so of exact, it can indicate confusion in dealing with the relationship and with the desires of the people involved. The Mars person may be annoyed by the Neptune person's hypersensitivity and the Neptune person can be hurt by what he/she perceives as the Mars person's lack of consideration.

    Mars trine Pluto
Because Pluto spends so many years in each sign, this trine is more significant as an indicator of the Mars person's response to an entire generation than as indication of one-to-one relationship traits. If the aspect is within a degree or so of exact, it can show that this is an intense and energetic relationship in which each of you spurs the other on to achieve more and to work to improve your situation in life. Close aspects are also a strong indicator of powerful sexual attraction.

Demi Moore's Planets Aspecting Bruce Willis's Planets

    Sun square Venus
This square is typically an indication of attraction, although there may be some friction. Yet, this friction is usually mild and may only add to the sexual tension between partners, which ain't all that bad. The Sun person's assertiveness may occasionally be felt as pushiness by the Venus person and the Venus person may sometimes seem oversensitive to the Sun person.

    Sun opposite Mars
Do you find yourselves playing the one-upmanship game with each other just a bit more often than you do with other people? It's not surprising with this aspect in your synastry comparison. There is likely to be a good deal of competitiveness, challenge and conflict when Mars opposes the Sun. Each of you may try to take charge of the relationship and may resent the other's demands. You may take offense at little things that were meant in the most benign way because you automatically anticipate challenges from each other. But this combination doesn't have to be all arm wrestling and defensiveness. You can, if the two of you are mature and grounded, turn the energy between you into a positive cooperative force -- and learn a great deal from each other in the process. The trick here is to accept that there is no right or wrong way, just "your" way and "my" way, and depending on the situation, one or the other mode of operation may work better .

    Sun trine Jupiter
This trine is one of the most harmonious aspects and shows great benevolence between the two people involved. You are likely to be generous to each other, and to be able to forgive and forget, when necessary, as you would with virtually no one else. You're also likely to help keep each other's spirits high. While you can encourage each other and support each other, you may be unwilling to acknowledge or deal with negative issues when they come up, which is the only real down side of this aspect.

    Sun conjunct Saturn
While this isn't the easiest aspect to have in a relationship chart, it is one of those aspects that can add to the durability, and sense of responsibility, in any partnership. There is a likelihood that the relationship may be limited or restricted in some way. Perhaps there is a great age difference, or one of the partners may have outside responsibilities that limit his or her ability to abandon him or herself to the pleasures of this pairing. But both partners will tend to take this relationship seriously, whatever its limitations. The Saturn person may be a wet blanket occasionally but can help the Sun person be more practical and disciplined. The Sun person can bolster the Saturn person's self-esteem.

    Sun trine Uranus
Usually this trine indicates an exciting, electric attraction. There's probably something about this relationship that is somewhat unusual or eccentric, but that very difference could be the glue that cements it. You may have fallen in love across a crowded room, or there may have been some other type of dazzling or surpising event that brought you together. Relationships with this trine work best when you are able to give each other a lot of freedom and you each respect the other's boundaries and individuality.

    Sun square Pluto
Because Pluto spends so many years in each sign, everyone born within a few years of each other will have Pluto in more or less the same position. This square is therefore more an indication of the Sun person's response to an entire generation than an indicator of one-to-one relationship traits. If the aspect is within a degree or so of exact, there can be intense struggles for authority and control between you. You may see each other as threats to your personal power or there may be jealousy, envy and scheming.

    Moon square Venus
This is generally an easy square. You are likely to excite each other's emotions and there may be a few intense moments between you, when you have to work at understanding where each is coming from emotionally, but generally this just adds dynamism to the relationship.

    Moon conjunct Mars
This is often a difficult aspect to have in a synastry comparison, as the Moon and Mars operate in generally incompatible ways. The Moon person may be easily wounded by what the Mars person does and says, and the Mars person is likely to be easily irritated by the Moon person's moods and demands. All that being said, this aspect has its good points too. It's usually an indicationof sexual attraction -- although this does not promise any tenderness in the relationship; that will have to be indicated by other factors. The sexual tension can make for passionate moments; but to get there, you may have to walk gingerly through an emotional minefield.

    Moon sextile Jupiter
This is one of those feel-good aspects that can really help cement a relationship, because you genuinely enjoy being around one another. You probably feel great benevolence, generosity and tolerance for each other , and will put up with flaws in one another that might drive you up a wall in someone else. You can cooperate on a variety of projects, especially those that involve beliefs, culture, principles or family, and can support each other's family and cultural values. All in all, this is an excellent aspect for domestic partners.

    Moon opposite Saturn
This is a difficult comparative aspect that can severely limit emotional expression between you . This aspect is often seen in relationships where the individuals stay together because they feel a need for security, or feel a sense of duty and loyalty, even though there may be great difficulty building emotional bridges between each other. This opposition does not indicate that there is no feeling for one another- there may, in fact, be great affection -- but that there are obstacles or a hesitancy in the way of emotional exchanges. The right words and gestures may not come easily, may be badly timed, or you may simply be unaware of the need to express your feelings for one another and to reassure each other in certain situations.

    Moon sextile Uranus
This comparative aspect can contribute to making a relationship both stimulating and comfortable. You are likely to feel both friendship and deeper emotional attraction for each other. If the aspect is close to exact, there can be great empathy and intuitive understanding of each other's moods and feelings.

    Moon square Pluto
Because Pluto spends so many years in each sign, everyone born within a few years of each other will have Pluto in more or less the same position. This square is therefore more significant as an indication of the Moon person's response to an entire generation than as an indicator of one-to-one relationship traits. If the aspect is within a couple of degrees of exact, there can be emotional power trips, manipulation and attempts to control each other. Most often these will be initiated by the Pluto person.

    Mercury opposite Mars
If you enjoy debating, this is an ideal aspect to have in your synastry comparison. Otherwise, it can be a bit irritating. The opposition of Mercury and Mars usually signifies two people who tend to argue with each other a lot. There can be disagreements about trivial matters, and very little patience with each other's actions and/or point of view. On the positive side, you can keep each other stimulated intellectually. Just try to control the desire to contradict each other when there isn't anything important at stake and stifle the urge to wound with cutting remarks that you may regret later.

    Venus trine Jupiter
This trine is likely to make yours a very harmonious relationship, unless other much stronger aspects contradict this. There is the tendency to feel warmth, generosity and caring toward each other and to give each other the benefit of the doubt when necessary . You're likely to share cultural interests and to help broaden each other's appreciation and tastes in art, literature and similar interests. One caveat: you are not likely to be good at sticking to a budget together unless there are some powerful, positive aspects to or from Saturn in the comparison.

    Venus conjunct Saturn
This aspect has the potential to be difficult, especially in romantic relationships. The Saturn person may be too parental and dour throwing a wet blanket on the Venus person's romanticism. The Venus person may seem too frivolous to the Saturn person and upset his or her sense of balance. Regardless of the above, many serious, stable, committed relationships with great staying power have this aspect. It tends to show a relationship where the partners show great loyalty to one another, even in the face of limitations and restrictions.

    Venus trine Uranus
There's likely to be something unusual or different about this relationship, but that probably tends to make it exciting. Magnetic sexual attractions are the rule with this comparative aspect, especially if the trine is within a degree or so of exact. The Uranus person, especially, may feel drawn to the Venus person like a moth to a flame. You are both likely to encourage each other to experiment more, and you may find that you are more adventurous together, in bed and out.

    Venus square Pluto
Because Pluto spends so many years in each sign, everyone born within a few years of each other will have Pluto in more or less the same position. This square is therefore more significant as an indication of the Venus person's response to an entire generation than as indication of one-to-one relationship traits. If the square is within a degree or two or exact, it can indicate a very passionate, intense relationship that may go through much turmoil and many break-ups. The up side of this is that it will also have the potential to be rebuilt stronger and better each time, like a phoenix rising from the ashes. There's potential here for manipulation, scheming, secretiveness, jealousy and the desire to 'get even' with each other. Which all adds up to mean that the people involved in this relationship need maturity both to control occasional negative impulses, and to handle the intensity.

    Jupiter trine Neptune
Because Neptune spends so many years in each sign, this trine is more significant as an indicator of the Jupiter person's response to an entire generation than as an indication of one-to-one relationship traits. If the aspect is within a degree or so of exact, it can bring a very benevolent, generous, idealistic and tolerant relationship that enriches both of you. Spiritual, religious and idealogical compatibility are probable with this trine.
