Inauguration of President G W Bush

    American Catastrophe:
Future Trends for the Bush Administration
    ... and the World

Note: this article has been reformatted to comply with current technology, but otherwise contains the same content as the article published in 2001 on this site at the time of the 9/11 attack on NYC.

Two planes crashed deliberately into both towers of the World Trade Center at mid-morning on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. At around the same time, another plane crashed into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Military, in Washington DC, the nation's capital. A fourth jet airliner also crashed outside Pittsburgh, PA at around the same time. In this part of our "American Catastrophe" series, Ian Thurnwald analyses the Future Trends for the Bush Administration and the World.

These commercial passenger jets are believed to have been hijacked by terrorists and deliberately crashed, killing all on board, not to mention the presently unknown number of casualties on the ground. This article examines the astrological influences at work with regard to the administration of President Bush and the future trends indicated.

I use the inauguration chart of George W. Bush's presidency as a predictive tool of his administration (
Personal Notes to Readers). I also consider the solar eclipses of 2001, set for the GMT of greatest eclipse, recast for the longitude and latitude of the nation's capital, to gain further insight into the general influences for the USA as a whole. Of course, when considering future trends it is always necessary to look at lunations in general and major planetary transits and stations as they unfold over time, both to this chart and other charts relating to the USA. In other words, it is essential to have a sense of history when analysing mundane affairs because any one chart is just a snapshot of the playing out of long-term planetary cycles and political events. For a detailed list of charts referred to, see List of Charts.
    Inauguration Charts
Inauguration charts in general are representative of a president elect's administration. These charts give a good indication of what the executive branch of government will be like, what will happen during its tenure, and what it will do. Astrologically this potential is represented by the Sun and its aspects, the 10th House/Sign, the ruler of the 10th and the ruler of the Midheaven, and their positions and aspects. The subsequent transits of the planets to this chart describe the nature and timing of events.

All modern presidents are inaugurated at around noon on same day, in the same place.
    (1) So most inauguration charts have Sun at 0° Aquarius in the 10th House/Sign, with late degrees of Capricorn on the Midheaven in the 9th House/Sign and middle degrees of Taurus on the Ascendant (see chart). The planetary rulers of the chart then are usually always Saturn, which rules Aquarius and Capricorn; Uranus, the modern co-ruler of Aquarius; and Venus, the ruler of Taurus.

Readers familiar with traditional astrology will notice that I employ the whole-sign houses approach to reading charts. The implications of this for inauguration charts are that the Midheaven falls in the Capricorn/9th House, the Immum Coli in Cancer/3rd, but the 10th House itself is always Aquarian in nature. (Still confused? see
    Notes on Technique)

This means that most administrations are strongly focused on both national and international affairs. At the national level there is usually a clean-sweep of the executive branch of government following the election when the new administration sets about instituting its policies and reforms for the nation (Aquarius/10th). In terms of foreign affairs, modern US administrations all have great influence on and involvement in the world at large, and usually see themselves as having the (Christian) God-given authority to do so (Capricorn MC in 9th). The foundation for this is this Cancer country's immense commercial wealth and a nationalistic rhetoric in which national security issues are the central concern (Cancer IC in 3rd).

Because this is the chart of an administration we will focus mainly on the position and aspects of the Sun (representative of the central concerns of the leadership) and the position, aspects and transits of the rulers of the Sun, 10th House (the seat of government), and Midheaven (foreign policy), namely, Saturn and Uranus.

This article goes on to consider the effects of the aspects to the Sun and Saturn in the unfolding of this significant series of events..
